Iredell County Communications Deploys RapidSOS

Iredell County Emergency Communications is proud to announce the deployment of a new cell phone location service called RapidSOS. RapidSOS utilizes a cell phone subscriber's data plan to help locate callers in an emergency when they call 9-1-1. Traditional location technology, with its limited capabilities, provided caller location information based on GPS and cell tower location often resulting in delays in locating a caller, often not locating callers closer than 150 feet and often times within miles of where they are calling from. When seconds count, this delay could mean the difference between life and death. Using cloud based data analytics and new cell technology, RapidSOS provides real time location information quickly to 9-1-1 call centers across the country. And best of all, cell phone users don't have to subscribe to utilize this service. As long as they have a data plan on their phone, RapidSOS can be utilized to locate them whenever they call 9-1-1, in less than 5 minutes and as close as within 15 feet of their location.
