Service


This program provides Well-child exams and Immunizations for children. The purpose of this program is to:

  • Detect health problems in children before they become long-term, costly problems.
  • Promote and maintain health.
  • Make referrals as appropriate to connect the child and family to needed resources.

 


What does a Well-Child Exam consist of?

  • A comprehensive medical, social, developmental and nutritional assessment.
  • Height and weight measurement
  • A physical exam.
  • Age appropriate developmental, vision and hearing tests.
  • If indicated, lab tests for low iron, cholesterol/lipid level, sickle cell and lead poisoning.
  • Guidance and education for parents on nutrition, development, discipline and safety as well as other concerns that they may have.

 

Fees and Eligibility

 

Children from birth to age 21 may come for a Well-Child exam. We recommend that you speak with our knowledgeable eligibility staff for more information regarding insurance and payment. We do accept Medicaid and NC Health Choice. If your child does not have any insurance, the eligibility staff will be glad to assess certain income documents for eligibility for a sliding fee discount.

Any child living in Iredell County may receive services at the Health Department.  Even if the child has a Medicaid assigned physician, the child may receive Well-Child Exams at the Health Department.
   
  We also provide physical exams for: 

  • Sports
  • Daycare
  • Kindergarten
  • Camp
  • Etc.

What do I need to bring to my appointment?
Bring a recent check (pay) stub for everyone that has a job and lives in the home (unless you have Medicaid).  If the pay stub has a year to date (YTD) total, then just bring one.  If not, you need to bring one month's worth of pay stubs.

Insurance Card(s)

Method of payment: cash, check, debit or credit card

Proof of county residence: electric bill, cable bill, or home phone bill (not cellular phone)
 
The parent or legal guardian has to bring their child to the first visit (no exceptions)

Did you Know???

  • Essentially, the well-child exam is a form of preventative medicine, meant to catch any potential problems in a child’s physical or developmental health. Each exam is usually tailored to the individual child and to the child’s age.
  • Infants need well child exams at the following ages:
    • 2 days
    • 1 month
    • 2 months
    • 4 months
    • 6 months
    • 9 months
    • 12 months
    • 18 months
    • 24 months
    • After age 2, children should come once a year after their birthday.
