Living Soil Contest
Local students win “The Living Soil” contests.

The Iredell Soil and Water Conservation District recently held its annual poster and public speaking contests for students in Iredell County. The poster contest is open to students in 3rd - 6th grades and public speaking is for 7th and 8th grade students.

Theme
The theme this year is “The Living Soil.”

Winners

This year, poster entries came from students in the 3rd and 5th grades. 1st place winners include:
  • 3rd grader Katherine Wilson from Central Elementary School
  • 5th grader Lauren Harris from Harmony Elementary School
7th grader, Jonathan Wilson, from Northview IB School won the public speaking contest.
Awards
Each student claimed 1st place and received a certificate of accomplishment, $25, and moved on to compete in the Area 8 competition where they competed against winners from 12 surrounding Districts.

Area 8
On the Area 8 competition level, Katherine Wilson placed 1st for her poster and will advance to the state competition to be held in May. Lauren Harris placed 3rd and Jonathan Wilson placed 3rd. Congratulations to these hard-working, dedicated students!
